In the aftermath of the high school shooting that occurred in Parkland, Florida last week, some of the student survivors are calling on Congress to pass legislation that would address gun violence in schools. The public calls raise an interesting question: Will there be a significant shift among the younger generation of today in favor of stricter regulation on guns?
It is difficult to answer, but it is in fact possible that the Parkland shooting and the efforts of the survivors will drive an uptick in support for gun control among young people and Americans overall.
I love seeing all the support being produced towards this cause, yet I feel as though these students aren't seeing the bigger picture. I mean, they're trying to get legislation against gun use by youth, yet they need to be raising awareness for gun use overall. If the youth lose the ability to access guns, then that just leads to adults using guns for harm...
