Ashley Surin, a child with leukemia, was banned from her school for needing medicinal marijuana to recover from seizures. This became a court case in Schaumburg, Illinois and a federal judge issued an emergency order to allow Ashley back into school with her medicine.
Now, since it's an emergency order, this has no bearing on any other school in the United States on whether or not they can allow kids to have medicinal marijuana.
CNN states,
"A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday to determine where the case will go in the future." so there are no definitive actions being made in the federal law yet. Especially with the shutdown.
But a discussion on the limits of medicine, especially for kids in schools, is now made.
I think that the school should allow Ashley Surin to attend school while taking medicinal marijuana. It's not like she's taking it because she's a drug addict. She NEEDS it to recover from seizures. I don't think it's fair to take away her right to learn just becuase she has different needs.
