At midnight of last Friday, (January 19th) the United States Government shut down due to budget disagreements between Republicans and Democrats in Senate. This caused several National parks and museums such as the Smithsonian to close temporarily. The military and postal service would still work but employees and workers may not be paid for the time the government is shut down. But today, (January 22) a bill was passed to end the government shutdown with yet another continuing resolution. The resolution ends on February 8th. When the whole process begins again.
I think this whole deal is a mess. I am very sad that our government can't just get along, work together and continue to keep things running. I am not expecting the government to get along for a very long time, but it would be nice to have an actual working budget as well as an effective immigration policy, which was the sticking point for democrats.
