- Doug Bandow, former assistant to President Reagan, and writer of multiple books, and articles for The Narional Interest, writes about the potential for a nuclear war in his article entitled "How America and North Korea Could Start a Nuclear War." Earlier in the article he connects this situation with that of the Cold War (when America was once on the road to nuclear war with the Russia Soviet Union. It was marked with lots of anxiety, danger and a heated political climate much like our situation today. He continues to speak about the fear mongering used in politics and continued to highlight the points that have been previously mentioned. For example that of how North Korea accused Trump for declaring war based off some stupid tweet he sent out. He also brings out the negative effects this war will have other than the major casualties, and how the US would be used as an event tool place.
Analysis:
- This is definitely not what we need at the moment, especially since all the horrible events going on in the world today. For example the shooting in Vegas, it caused many to lose their lives and so will this war. We are not prepared for a war, and earlier in the article it said that "too bad the senator doesn't think those lives count for much." Meaning the US may still not take the threat seriously if it's not a direct threat to the US mainland. This is not the attitude America should be reflecting and it's truly heartbreaking to know that this is how some people truly feel we should try to be prepared for whatever may come our way.

This brings up the interesting argument of whether current strife between the US and NK is a new development or just an extension of the Cold War originally fought with the Soviet Union, and whether that conflict ever truly ended/if it will end.
ReplyDeleteNuclear arms have been an issue for the past 40 years. The significant thing about this, however, is that NK has refused to back down from their rash and reckless actions. I feel like NK is asking for a war, and they will lose.
