Ashton Benn- Drug Abuse Issues

A common painkiller has caused more than half a million deaths since 2000. The number has quadrupled from that time, as millions of people suffer from abuse and this drug is usually at the center. Opioid is a painkiller that targets your brain of creating a euphoric feeling that is addicting. The more someone takes this drug, the stronger the feeling of need is. Actions have been taken in trying to prevent addiction, hotlines for kids and adults alike have dispatched emergency vehicles to over 700,00 people, but why is the number still rising? No matter how many people are saved, it seems there are five more that die. Drug-rehabilitation centers have sprung up all over America in attempt to  restore teens and adults to their former state. People are encouraged to treat the addiction as a sickness because it truly is that. The sick need constant support and vigilance by their friends and family because getting through that process is very hard and painful. Research into these types of things are a constant ongoing process where theories are being tested and executed all the time.

America is wrought with drug abuse. There are countless stories of lives ruined by the effect of drugs on people and their loved ones. As technology improves, so does the genetics of drugs and how they are grown, manufactured, and distributed. History is an ever changing thing, and drug use is now a key role in deaths, and it leaves its imprint on people's personal communities. As seen with the temperance movement, many people try to educate and help, but things like this take time. Alcoholism is still a prevalent issue, but not as much as it used to be when it was introduced. New drugs are exciting for people that are bored and/or need an escape, but it does not justify the danger that they can put you in.

  1. I agree that this relates to the temperance movement, and it very well could happen again

  2. The repetition of this event is very possible and that is horrible to hear. However sharing awareness of the problem will help the situation.

  3. Drugs are a serious problem, but sadly will always be a reoccurring issue. The sharing of the awareness is so important, and people should never stop.
