This is very similar to the practice of mudslinging that arose around the time that Jackson took office. This has the power to alter elections and affect the country. If there had not been such a scandal around the discovery of Clinton's deleted emails and the Trump campaign had not dedicated so much time to exposing said emails this past election may have turned out much differently. This ad hominem attacking is also bad for voters, because it often convinces them to vote or not vote for a particular individual based on their personality rather than their policies.

This makes people who supported Trump truly question his honesty and integrity as our president and makes them think that they probably bid on the wrong horse.
