Sam Blumberg- Women and Dogs Survive 5 Months at Sea
On Wednesday morning, 2 women and their 2 pet dogs were discovered in the middle of the sea after almost 6 months of being lost. They were supposed to be on a monthlong sailing trip from Honolulu to Tahiti, but, after their engine flooded, they went 5,000 miles off course and were unable to make contact with others. It was in this horrifying situation that Jennifer Appel and Tasha Fuiaba were forced to survive off a water purifier and a store of oatmeal, pasta and rice. For 98 days, nobody answered their distress calls. "It was very depressing and very hopeless," said Appel, "There is true humility to wondering if today is your last day, if tonight is your last night." They were finally found when the Ashland, a ready response Japanese vessel was alerted of their boat by a Taiwanese fishing boat. This seems like an unreal situation that would probably make a really interesting movie. Situations like these teach us that we have to be grateful for not being stuck in the middle of the ocean. It also teaches us that if you don't have to, you shouldn't eat your dogs.

Wow! She is so strong to have survived for so long in such a hard situation! I find the fact that she kept going even though she found the situation "depressing and very hopeless" very inspiring.
