It has officially been 5 years since Hurricane Sandy, and now the question is- are we better prepared? On a Monday morning it began to hit New York City. This hurricane caused many problems with the infrastructure and because New York is so heavily populated and is known for its transportation, this caused major issues with the city.  Citizens are saying that every year that they don't encounter a hurricane they feel very fortunate and they feel that they "dodged a bullet". This hurricane brought together the whole city just like it did when 9/11 occurred. The city is still today working hard to get better prepared in case of something like that happened again. Flooding was a major problem that they faced because the city was not as prepared as it should have been and Sandy exceeded what their expectations were. They have improved technologies so that doors are more resistant and so that they could keep in contact even in such a bad storm. Hospitals have also been granted money (1.1 billion dollars) to reevaluate and create better suited rooms and have better technology for these kinds of events.

This has to do with APUSH, because when 9/11 occurred, the city and country as a whole not only came together, but fixed and reevaluated the safety and the hazards at risk at all times. This was written as a reminder for everyone in the country to remember that safety is important and that people are working hard at cost for our protection.

  1. That is very important and generous that hospitals in this area were granted 1.1 billion dollars. Hopefully with all of this money they will be very prepared if they are hit with another hurricane.

  2. The amount of hurricanes we have had are flooring, hopefully people will take the necessary precautions this time and learn from the many heartbreaking stories.

  3. Hopefully if this storm gets bigger we will be better prepared to face the consequences and deal with the disasters

  4. It's amazing to see how when horrible disasters have struck a city, people come together to make the best of it. Even though we are having a hard time controlling climate change with the Paris Agreement, its good to see hospitals being prepared
