Summary: On September 17, 2016 a bomb went off in New York City injuring 29 people and resulting in one casualty. Residents said that they could feel their whole building shake. New York Mayor, Bill de Blasio, stated that the bombing was intentional but the NYC police don't know who the threat was coming from. Along with the bomb that went off in the Chelsea area, the police found another bomb in a local dumpster about four blocks away made out of pressure cooker with silver wires and a cell phone. The police disarmed it before it went off. Many residents in the area fled to safety just for precaution, but NYCPD have not let them return to their homes until they are satisfied all is clear. Ironically, there was another bombing near a Marine Corps run in New Jersey and a man in Minnesota who stabbed nine people...what a coincidence. The article states that investigators have not tracked down or found the source to all of this violence, but they say it might all be linked up to one group of individuals. Because of this, Mayor de Blasio is putting more enforcements in the city and in rural areas to keep the residents in NYC safe and out of harm. Mayor de Blasio also says that this will never happen again and will not stop until the people responsible are found.
Analysis/ Synthesis: Reading and watching this on the news over the weekend caused me to be alarmed for the family I have in New York and in New Jersey. It's crazy to think that someone is capable of making these devices to injure or kill others. Just the thought that these items can be found just laying around at home baffles me. Just a week ago, we were remembering the anniversary of 9/11, a very monumental event with the attacks on the Twin Towers. It's not that drastic as the 9/11 tragedy but has similarities. New Yorkers' and Americans' hearts skip a beat when they hear "bomb" or "explosion" in conjunction with the Big Apple. No one will ever forget, and no one wants to even think of something like that happening again. But why so many terrible events in one day? It does may you pause to wonder if it could be the same group or if the world has just lost their sensibility.

woah i did not know this happened!!! who did it?
ReplyDeleteI agree, we really need to do something about how often attacks are happening nowadays, they come in smaller forms than that of 9/11 but they are more frequent which is not good. If this is put off it is only going to become worse and worse.
ReplyDeleteI agree more and more of these attacks are happening now and we all need to be aware and report suspicious activity.
