Jay'La Sims - Hate Crimes Against American Muslims Most Since Post-9/11 Era

SUMMARY: Hate crimes against American Muslims has become higher since 9/11. The situation has been brought to hate crime scholars and law enforcement. Researchers at California State University found that hate crimes against Muslims were up to 78%. Police and news tributes show many attacks. Some scholars believe these hate crimes can be caused by Donald Trump and his statement of banning immigrant Muslims. Brian Levin says hate crimes rise after Trump's speeches. The latest incident was the Islamic center on fire. Levin believes the negative rhetoric causes hate crimes. 481 documented hate crimes against Muslim were in 2001. The hate crimes may be understated since some aren't even reported.  Three people were killed in a chapel last year but it wasn't listed as a hate crime. One man wrote hateful words about Islam on facebook and shot into a mosque hours later. This article contains a number of crimes against Muslims. Also how Trump inflicts some of these crimes.

ANALYSIS: Eric Lichtblau the author of this article has written books like The Nazis Next Door, Bush's Law: The Remaking of American Justice. This article is basically about the hate crimes against Muslims and how they have risen since 9/11. The author makes justifications that it might be because of politics.Ever since Trump's statements about Muslims the hate crimes have risen. This article brings attention to the injustice against Muslim people and why this may be. I agree with the author that hate crimes will rise if politics keep going this way. This can relate to the hate crimes against blacks in the civil rights movement.

  1. I think it is important to recognize problems like these in our country because many of them are overlooked by those in power somewhat because of the events in 9/11.

  2. This is a very important situation that needs to be fixed and unjust for Muslims to be going through hate crimes like you mentioned

  3. I agree with Jordyn and Anecia, it's just racial profiling and it is not right for us to automatically assume Terrorist because of their ethnicity. Black people suffer the same way
