Last week, there was a hurricane warning in Florida and the states north of it. Residents were advised to clear the beaches and board up their houses. The weather channels estimated multiple feet of rainfall and nasty winds up to 80 mph. The hurricane, which was named Hurricane Hermine, was headed straight toward Florida's panhandle. Then, finally it hit land on September 2nd. Hurricane Hermine was the first hurricane to hit landfall in Florida since 2005. The northern states above Florida experienced lots of rain and wind due to the southern hurricane. Then, the hurricane went back out to sea on the Atlantic Coast; the weather channels have advised residents in the Carolina's though to be alert of the chance that it could swing back west into the United States for a second devastation of land.
The point of this article is to help people be aware of the natural disasters going on around them in the United States and in the world. Without this news, people wouldn't be able to know what natural disaster was coming there way and others wouldn't know to help out with the aftermath of such a terrible disaster. Although Hurricane Hermine was categorized as a category 1 hurricane, this experience can relate to that of Hurricane Katrina, which was a category 5 hurricane. Both of these hurricanes show examples of when we as a community have to come together to help out other people in need. There were lots of losses in both of these hurricanes. Houses and neighborhoods and trees and lives were all taken from these communities because of those hurricanes. The impact of a hurricane is always great even if it isn't as big or as strong as others in the past. We can't stop when and where they hit.
