United States Eases Trade Restrictions with Cuba by Caroline North 9th period

In President Obama's latest attempt to bypass the US Congress's economic embargo on the island of Cuba, a number of trade restrictions were eased with the communist government on Tuesday.  American companies may now lend money to Cuban entrepreneurs and invest in infrastructure projects.  The president has urged Congress to lift the embargo that bans most trade between the US and Cuba and has also pushed to reestablish diplomatic relations with the country.

While Congress for the most part consistently ignores President Obama's pleas on multiple issues, he has utilized his executive authority to loosen trade restrictions and taken actions that are not specifically disallowed by Congress.  The demonstration of improving relations with Communist nation Cuba represents a motion to move forward and our president taking actions to allow the United States to play a positive role in foreign affairs.
