This passed Saturday, NASA released new images of Mars taken by the Curiosity rover, including a 360 degree view. This incredible little bot has been sending us images of the surface of Mars for over 5 years now. These images are truly spectacular in that we no have photographs of the surface of another planet.
Even just 100 years ago, space had no such thing built by us in it. In 1942, the first man-made object, V-2, was launched into space, sparking the idea of space exploration. It gave us the first blurry pictures of earth from space. The first satellite, Sputnik 1, was launched October of 1957 by the Soviet Union. The launch of the satellite began the space race between the Soviet Union and the United States of America. This race lead to greater and greater space exploration until in 1961, Yuri Gagarin became the first human in space. We've come a long way since the V-2 craft. We are closer than ever to putting a human on Mars.
