A “proxy” war between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthi rebels broke out last Feb because the Houthi rebels were unsatisfied with foreign domination. Now, Yemen endures daily air strike from Saudi Arabia. I find it unjustifiable how the US is standing by her gulf friend and providing intelligence and aircraft that results in the deaths of families.
I find it tragic how our actions against the Yemenis are not being broadcasted in presidential debates and are not subjects of international controversies just because people dismiss the complexity of Yemen as statistical and too far to feel tangible. As we are playing a part in generating chaos in Yemen, a country with the greatest Al Qaeda population, we are breeding hatred against us and neglecting the pattern of history in which instability empowers terrorism. We have all seen the consequences of US interference with 1953 Iranian Coup that put Mosaddeq out of power for our oil interests and intensified anti-Americanism.
