The man accused of killing 6 people and injuring 2 during a shooting rampage in Michigan was an Uber driver who picked up and dropped off passengers during the shooting. He is believed to have been looking for fares after the final shooting of the 7-hour rampage. Uber shared that the driver was 45 and had passed a background check before being employed. A few hours after the shooting began, Dalton pulled up to a Cracker Barrel parking lot and opened fire on a vehicle, killing and injuring many. Two hours later, Dalton was taken into custody and police seized a handgun from him. Police believe that if they hadn't taken the driver into custody when they did, many more people would have died.
This story is very scary for multiple reasons, one being the fact that the driver's motive remains unknown. This makes it even scarier for people who use Uber (like myself) to think of how easily this could happen to anyone. Background checks are great however, most of them would never hint as to if the person would be of danger to anyone. The cruel randomness of this story is very frightening to everyone who reads it, and hopefully more in-depth background checks will be used in the future to prevent anything like this from happening again.

I agree with your analysis, the convenience of killing people while being their driver is very scary especially since many of us use uber, and background checks are definately necessary I order to make sure something like this never happens again.

This is scary, but the fact of the matter is that Uber is a business, and it seeks out to make money. Until this issue starts hurting their business, there may not be much done about it (which is in fact, scary to imagine).

Today's societal convenience makes some elements of life simpler, but many unknowns and risks come with it.
