Wednesday night, Pope Francis stated that Donald Trump was not a Christian. He said that a Christian needs to build bridges while all Trump can think about is building walls. Trump then called his comments disgraceful, but some of his other fellow Republican candidates had their own two cents to weigh in on the issue. Ted Cruz refused to get involved, as did Marco Rubio, while Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, and John Kasich (who???) all stated they were in no positions to judge someone's faith.
I feel as if all the Republican candidates either refused to get involved or stayed relatively neutral because they too are mostly guilty for a lot of the issues the pope accused Trump of. While they are partially correct in the assertion that none of us are in a position to judge someone's faith, I think most people can be pretty sure that Donald Trump isn't exactly the most virtuous person to say the least... Today, religion doesn't a huge deal, compared to the past when it was taboo for Catholics to marry Protestants and some presidents were elected over others because of religion, but for the pope to actually call him out as not Christian is a big deal. It even hurts him. I hope the pope calls him out more.
