The article that I read was about how the U.S. leads the world in the most mass shootings. It talks about how between 1966 and 2012, there were 90 mass shootings in the U.S. compared to the 292 globally. This is a quite a large ratio because the U.S. only holds 5% of the world’s population, while it saw 31% of public mass shootings. The article looks further into the copycat phenomenon, saying that it’s more likely to happen in the U.S. than any other country because of our accessibility to guns. As there are an estimate of 270 million to 310 million firearms circulating through the U.S. The article ends with the possible desire for fame being another reason for where we are today.
I feel that this article can serve as a wake-up call. As it shows us statistically where we stand on a global scale. It tells us our current situation and problem. Almost everyday there is something terrible going on in our country that has to do with the use of guns. If we look at it the right way, it can motivate us to improve the country in which we live in.

The fact that their are more registered guns than people in the US is crazy. Gun laws need to be regulated better.
ReplyDeleteThis news is quite surprising! The amount of mass shootings in the US is awfully high in comparison to the global statistic. As much as I find this information to be very saddening, it also poses a conflict, as people also believe in the right to bear arms with intentions of self protection. ReplyDeletelthough I believe the process for obtaining a firearm should be more rigorous, I can't actually think of a way to improve our current situation. If a crazy person wants to shoot someone, and they're committed enough, they will find a way to get a weapon and make it happen.
