Summary: The article I chose to read was about the tragic morning of August 26, in which journalist Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward were shot to death during a live TV interview. The article explains that the suspect is a former co-worker and journalist of WDBJ-TV, Vester Flanagan, or also known on TV as Bryce Williams. I learned that he WDBJ camera wasn't the only one filming that morning. Flanagan had filmed the entire incident with a GoPro camera and posted it onto his Facebook and his Twitter. The police tracked Flanagan's cell phone and found him on Interstate 66. A trooper tried to pull him over, but Flanagan refused to stop and soon flew off the road. Troopers found him dead in his vehicle after a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead Wednesday afternoon.
Analysis: I chose this article because it informed the reader about Flanagan's problematic history. He stated that Alison Parker, the reporter that he shot, had made "racist comments" and Adam, according to Flanagan, "went to hr on me after working with me one time!!!" Although these claims were never proven true, it's interesting to know what triggered Flanagan. He grew tired of all the anger and conflict in his life and looked to Parker and Ward to rid of it. We can tell from all his preparation for that morning that he was determined and he wanted to make sure the entire nation would see what he would do. It is truly tragic to see those innocent people have their lives taken away because of his rage. It is even more troubling to say that shootings like this are not an unusual occurrence. Hopefully, this story won't disappear into the past along with the other hundreds of stories of shootings. Instead, I hope that America will open it's eyes so we can learn from our mistakes and prevent these tragic incidents from happening again.

ReplyDeleteWow such a sad story. When watching the news report on TV, I had thought it was some random person, not a co-worker. So sad that he had planned it all with a go-pro and everything.
This is such a sad article. What shocked me is that it was on live TV. This has probably woken everyone up and they've seen what world we are living in.
