Summary- Kanye West for president in the 2020 elections? While accepting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2015 MTV Video Music awards, Kanye, in his final words of his 12 minute speech said that he will in fact be running for president in 2020. "And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president. This got everyone talking and this news was one of the most unforeseen events of the night
Analysis- While it is a different thing to have a celebrity to run for office, is it a good thing? I know that Kanye may be smart but I don't think he would be the best in office. First off he told the audience that if they are wondering "did he smoke something before he came out here... Yes, I rolled up a little something. I knocked the edge off." this does not seem like a very wise choice for a person who could be running the country in the next half decade. He also renown for his interruption of Taylor Swifts speech during the 2009 VMA's where he jumped up and grabbed her microphone and said that Beyonce's music video was better than hers. Though very immature of him, he claims that he would not have done that if he had a daughter at the time, yet he went on stage after "rolling up a little something."

ReplyDeleteSo true, although it may be funny to laugh at the image that comes to my head as I think of Kanye of president it doesn't mean that he is our best choice for president. He'd obviously rather be "rolling up a little something" than filling out paperwork that will affect all of our futures.
Although Yeezus is a great artist and I respect his music, I don't think America has anything to worry about.
ReplyDeleteCelebrities running for President who have no experience as politicians never do any good when running for office... But still, he can't be worse than Trump. YEEZUS2020 would make for a pretty cool album name for one dropped in 5 years in my opinion... Especially if by that time he has actually decided to run.
ReplyDeleteI honestly doubt this is anything serious, but I mean, if Trump is running, who's to stop any other random famous person for going for it. It is pretty scary though to think that our country would be placed in the hands of someone who probably doesn't care about the actually issues that need to be resolved in this country.
ReplyDeleteIf Kanye really does run (which I doubt it) our nations vote will probably vote for him for the fact his is a well known celebrity. We as a nation will regret this decision when he will be in office for the wrong reason and knowing nothing about our political aspects as a nation also he is very immature as you pointed out in your analysis. -Keeleigh Everett 4th period

ReplyDeleteI mean, nothing is too outrageous at this point. If Donald Trump can be the Republican frontrunner with little to no political experience and a campaign based 80% on racism who's to say Kanye can't run. Personally I would rather see Kanye up there than Trump
Although Kanye would probably win the election with the help of everyone who just turned 18, I don't think he'd make a good president. He is wiser and a bit more controlled than he was before North, but he may not be the best at keeping peace with other countries. Kanye is probably just messing around since everyone just decided to make the upcoming election a joke. We have nearly 300 people running with names like Obi Wan Kenobi and Deez Nuts, so why not add yourself to the list? Kanye was probably laughing at the names on that list while he "rolled up a little something" on his way to the awards ceremony anyway.

ReplyDeleteHeck no! Kanye shouldn't be president. Never ever. He has to much ego and I just think he should stick to his music. Let not destroy the future y'all. No offense Kayne but your not presidential material.
I don't think he will ever get elected.

I honestly think that Kanye is merely an egotistical airhead seeking attention, but Trump's recent success in the polls has shown that we can't underestimate these type of people. I still highly doubt either will ever end up in office, but I'm extremely discouraged by how the presidential election has become a comedic spectacle.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything that you have said. I don't believe Kanye would be fit for presidency. Though it will get the younger voters stirred up and active, this isn't the kind of person we need running America... but who knows BOUND 2 becoming president, maybe???? -Carli Copell
ReplyDeleteIf Kanye runs for president, I would be extremely surprised. Many are saying he was making fun of Donald Trump; many are saying he is actually running for president. I completely agree with your statement about how he is not fit to run the country but imagine all of the publicity he would get if he did.
