Week 1 Current Events Blog - Bennett Copley 8th Period

A man was convicted for capital murder on Monday, August 31. He admits to the killings, but pleads not guilty, his defense was that he “meant to kill Jews, not people.” Frazier Glenn Cross killed 3 people: 2 in a Jewish community center, and another at a Jewish retirement community, Village Shalom. Cross had a record of taking to anti-Semitic and white supremacist views, and was likely attempting to follow through on his beliefs when he killed William Lewis Corporon and his grandson Reat Griffin Underwood as well as Terri LaManno, none of whom were Jewish. After being charged as guilty, Cross is reported to have said: “I think the fat lady just sang. Sieg heil.” As well as saying this he is reported to have given the Nazi salute immediately afterward. Religion is one of the main reasons for war and/or killing. People have disagreed on religion since, well, there was more than one religion. What I don’t understand is why people can’t just understand that other people believe different things, and in doing so, it doesn’t make them some sort of flesh eating monster. I mean, a person is a person is a person, and it doesn’t matter what they believe in.

  1. Well said! Why do people discriminate against people who are different?
