"Go Back to Univision" // Uriel Cruz Period 6

On Tuesday night, Donald Trump was at a press conference in Iowa answering all of the eager reporters' questions. One of those reporters was Jorge Ramos, Univision News' anchorman. Trump had just finished answering a question and pointed in front of him to let another reporter have a go when Jorge rose and started speaking. It wasn't Jorge's turn though since he was to Trump's right. not in front. Trump didn't like Ramos' attitude and silently requested that Ramos be escorted out of the room. As civil as this may sound, this is Donald Trump we're talking about. Donald told Ramos to "go back to Univision" even though he didn't "know much about him," nor "believe I ever met him." Either Ramos being Univision's anchorman was part of Trump's limited knowledge about him, or Trump just assumed he was; this isn't good for Trump either way. Jorge Ramos is "the most trusted source of information among Latinos," according to TIME. He knows what he's doing and has been doing just that for a very long time. This kind of behavior towards Latinos isn't new for Trump, believe it or not.  If Trump wins the upcoming election, he plans to deport "11 millon Latinos," as said by Ramos at the conference, and build a wall separating Mexico and the US. Trump believes that Mexicans crossing the border is the 'real threat' to America. According to Trump, Mexico is the source of all the drug lords and rapists scattered throughout the US. This just can't add up though.
I don't recall Walter 'Heisenberg' White being portrayed by a Latino actor. The real Walter White is even a Caucasian man. In recent years, innocent moviegoers, students, and even people praying in church have been either injured or killed in mass shootings. Who's pulling the triggers, you may ask? (Mostly) Teenage/Middle-aged Caucasian men. How are they not in jail or executed immediately? They blame it on mental illness or some other problem they supposedly have. They may still be jailed, but they truly aren't punished for what they've done.
This isn't always the case for anyone else though. Innocent African Americans are being injured or killed by our police, immigrants are being deported even though they're trying to support their families and even lowering the percentage of unemployed in the US. This prejudice and discrimination has gone on for centuries in human history.
From the Exploration times to 2015, everyone has been talked about or questioned just by how they appear. This kind of discrimination is a very important part of US History. Minorities have been scoffed at, women have been degraded, white rich men have ruled supreme. Although times have changed, the prejudice has stayed with us. Women have made a great leap forward with having the right to vote and work and do anything a man can do. Although they still get paid less than men and the feminist movement needs work, they're hitting back hard and fast. Minorities are taking over and are becoming the majority. Confederate flags are slowly getting taken down in the south and segregation isn't a problem anymore. The US may need help with achieving equality, but we sure are getting there.

I don't really consider Donald Trump a 'real politician'. Traditionally to be in politics you have to choose a party and go along with what they say to get more votes, to be a politician is to be an actor, constantly trying to win people over. Trump however breaks the mold, he says whatever he wants and what he truly genuinely believes with little thought of consequence. Somehow, there is a growing population that is attracted to that, it sets him apart from other candidates and is getting him votes. That's what makes him so dangerous, he's breaking the rules and disproving the unspoken idea we all have that 'if you say something awful you'll lose respect that you have to work very hard to try and earn back'. Donald Trump sends a message that you can say whatever you want, no matter how offensive and uneducated, and not face repercussions.
