Today i read an article explaining how a team of archaeologists came up with a fairly cheap 3-D camera that is capable of capturing pictures and keeping a record of buildings and artifacts. These 3-D cameras will be sent out in bulk to many locations in the Middle East. These hard working researchers are encouraging Middle Easterns to use these cameras and capture pictures of their most sacred monuments/temples.
ISIS had recently blown up the 2,000 year old Temple of Baalshamin. This ancient temple is located in Palmyra, Syria. Keep in mind that ISIS had taken over Palmyra, Syria, on the 21st of May. This act of war crime was excruciatingly devastating for many Middle Easterns.
The new 3-D camera has the ability to capture records of many ancient monuments. This gives architects the chance to build replicas of the artifacts destroyed in war crimes. The database within the 3-D camera provides investigators with enough information for an almost exact replica of the destroyed monuments.
Without researchers spending a total of five years working to create this little pierce of valuable technology, a great chunk of Middle Eastern history could be easily wiped away forever by ISIS.

I think this is a great innovation! While a replica can in no way replace the immense amount of historical and religious significance found in these artifacts and buildings, it will help preserve the memory.
