Diana Nyad is attempting to be the first person to swim the dangerous 112 miles from Cuba to Key West without a shark cage. At 64, she has been working for this goal for 35 years. Her journey began on Saturday morning in the Hemingway Marina off the coast of Havana, Cuba. She had been swimming ever since, stopping from time to time for food and water. Her last attempt ended amid unfavorable conditions and jellyfish stings that left her face swollen and puffy. As of Monday morning, she was about 5 miles from Florida, and is expected to arrive in Key west on Monday between 4 p.m and 6 p.m. EDT. She is also the author of three books, a motivational speaker and has been a reporter and commentator for NPR.

I believe this story was written as a beacon of hope for Americans. In a society where everyone seems to be giving up or taking the easy way out, its good to hear a story of honest hard work. No matter what you take from Diana Nyad's story, she is an inspiration to us all.
This is a very interesting story. I'm not sure that I agree with the idea that the article was written mostly for inspiration but I find this to be a surprising physical feat.
