Airplanes and Cocaine

On September 11th (but publicized this Saturday) French police found 1.3 tons of cocaine on a plane from Venezuela. The cocaine was neatly packed in 30 separate suitcase that were marked anonymously. The flight came from Caracas on an Air France flight to Paris. The monetary worth of the cocaine is about $270 million dollars or 200 million euros. Three members of the national guard have been detained with a "connection" to the cocaine. According to French Minister Manuel Valls, "several people have been taken into custody." Venezuelan authorities, prosecuters, and the Counter Drug Command of the National Guard in Simon Bulivar International Airport are also all investigating.
First off I'd like to say how disenchanted I am with Venezuelan Airport Security. Not only do you not notice 30 anonymous suitcases belonging to no passenger in the airport, let alone on the plane, but you also fail to notice 2,600 pounds of cocaine boarding the flight. Secondly, it's been over 10 days since the discovery of the illegal drugs and so far no details have been release as to whose guilty minus some vague words about several people being taken into custody and some National Guards being detained. And I still can't get over how you don't realize that there is 2,600 pounds of cocaine in anonymous suitcases aboard your airplane. Really.

  1. I think it's super funny that they decided it was a good idea to transport ALL of it at the same time, and think they wouldn't get caught. Unless they wanted to be caught? MMMMM something to think about... This may have been on purpose to freeze up some big drug lord's cartel.

  2. I think that it's an interesting system; both the ways that the dealers decided to go about transportation of all the cocaine and also the lack of Venezuelan airport security. TSA would be all over those suitcases as soon as they were found to not belonging to anyone. Just sayin, this whole situation is a little bit on the ridiculous side.

  3. Weird. You would think after 9/11 that airports everywhere would be much more secure. But apparently not if they let 2600 pounds of cocaine onto an airplane.

  4. Yes it is serious. But 2600 lbs is making me chuckle a bit. I don't know who is to be more at blame though. The French or Venezuelans? In different aspects, the same amount of guilt is brought to both countries.
