Malicious teens: Devon Travis

Earlier this week in spokane, Washington, two teenages boys were arrested for accounts of malicious activity, including second degree assault, burglary, auto theft, and hit and run. They planned on killing the thirteen-year old's mom and "eating her liver", and fortunately that didm;t happen. The mother is still nursing back to health in the hospital; the boys are now in custody. The thirteen year old said he and his friend had been taking "blue pills" during the acts and would never do these acts if they were sober. For now they remain unnamed, but there isn't much more to the story.

My first thought when reading this was the horribly violent has our nation come to that these two TEENAGERS can have the idea to kill ones mother and then actually act upon it? As i read on, it speaks of the boys taking these "pills" that aren't specified, which brings me to another point; why do these young kids take drugs that they can't even tell you what they are? Our world has become a life of short lived "highs" whether it be drugs, alcohol, adrenaline, etc. These highs don't produce many good outcomes or any good decisions. If the boys were sober, I'm sure neither of them would ever do something so gruesome. It disgusts me to watch our youth deteriorate so quickly, our generation still needs politicians and inventors and scientists and so many other respectable jobs- but do we have anyone to fill them? I've kind of lost hope in our society. step it up.

  1. The twelve-year-old of today equates to the seventeen-year-old of yesterday. I agree, it's shocking how quickly our generation's children begin to espouse cynicism, violence, and disgust towards propriety. This is indubitably due to relaxed social standards and overexposure to inappropriate content, facilitated by the ironically marvelous and convenient technology that today offers. However, does this mean that teaching ignorance is the solution?
