Summary: A new report from the Pew Research Center states that about 11.7 illegal immigrants are living in the United States. Even though the numbers haven't drastically changed over the past few years, the report says that the numbers might be rising again. Congress is debating on laws that would create pathways to citizenship for illegal immigrants but some states, like Arizona, Alabama, and Georgia, are cracking down on illegal immigrants with deportations and higher-level border control. Six million Mexican-born immigrants make up approximately 52% of the unauthorized population in the U.S.
Analysis: It's so surprising how many people are able to cross the border illegally each year. I don't think it's good that they're in the U.S. without authorization but I think it's good that Congress is trying to write laws to give them a pathway to citizenship. I also think it's really interesting how the number of illegal immigrants hasn't really changed over the past few years but now the number is starting to rise again.

I agree that it is surprising to see how many people are able to cross the border illegally. Also, I don't think it is fair to the American citizens that so many illegal immigrants make up over half of the population of America. A stronger border control is needed.
ReplyDeletei never understood why they just can't come over and apply for citizenship, wouldn't that make everything so much easier? maybe i don't have all the information. But as said in chapmans class, we can tolerate so many immigrants until about 15% of the total population are illegal. Let's slow it down
