According
to this article by Laura Klairmont, Nicholas Lowinger, a 15-year-old boy living
in Rhode Island first visited a homeless shelter at the age of 5. After seeing
how few of the children he met had shoes, Nicholas began to donate all of the
shoes he outgrew. When he was 12, though, he wanted to do something more for
these children; instead of just donating used shoes, he started an organization
called the Gotta Have Sole Foundation. The foundation now donates shoes to homeless
children in 21 states. Nicholas talks about how having no shoes or improperly
fitting shoes negatively affects children’s education. He now works with the
organization 15 hours a week and hopes to keep expanding the program.
It
was exciting to read this article because it demonstrates the positive impacts
children and teenagers can have on society despite being young. I love to hear
positive stories like this and thought it was extremely touching to read about
some of the specific families Nicholas has helped. It is always great to see
young people making a difference and helping people in the world. I am looking
forward to seeing where this foundation goes and how many families and children
it will be able to help in the future.

This story is really awesome. I, too, love hearing stories about people who reach out and make a difference in the world - it really changes people's lives in a big way. Makes me want to reach out to others as well whenever I can, so I can serve as a light in the darkness and bring people new hope and joy. I think that's the best kind of feeling. :)

Not only has this boy helped to make thousands of kids' lives better, his story has also inspired others to help serve in their community. We are all very fortunate and have many privaleges that we sometimes take for granted. It is important to remeber this and help make the world a better place by giving back to the community.
