Should Hillary Run? - Umair Nasser 1st Period

Summary: Nancy Pelosi and Sarah Palin were both asked (separately) about their opinions on wether or not Mrs. Clinton should participate in the 2016 race for presidency. Nancy Pelosi, a longtime supporter of Hillary, says that she "will win" if she decides to run in 2016. The democratic Congresswoman is on her side for the possible campaign. Palin, on the other hand, is not supportive. "It still makes a difference what happens in Benghazi," said Palin, who is a paid contributor on Fox News. She is referring to Clinton's handling of the deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, last year. (where four American's died) Basically, Pelosi thinks Hillary is more capable as President than Bill, Obama, or George Bush. And on the flip side, Palin is speaking not for herself, but on behalf of her paycheck from Fox News, who is known for their very conservative views not only socially, but also politically.

Analysis: It makes me a little upset when a political official is being paid by a certain media outlet to form her opinions based on a check. Palin shouldn't stand up for what Fox News wants her to say, but what is correct information. Palin formed her opinions based on one event that was probably very difficult to handle if you were in Clintons position. I personally think it's wrong for a public servant to voice her opinions based on an incentive. Wrong and unethical.

I don't particularly think that Sarah Palin's views are created solely by pressure from the conservative Fox News, because she is paid to express her opinions on it. I view it as the opposite. Fox News has hired her because they know her to be unflinchingly conservative, and often says things that are polarizing and titillating. However, it may be a combination of both. I can't be sure how much Fox News is pressuring Palin. In your final statement, you say that you find it unethical for a politician to voice his or her opinions based on an incentive. Did you mean a monetary incentive? Because I cannot thing of an instance in which a public servant said something large without there being an incentive. People say things to get things. To get voters, viewers, likes on facebook, even passing grades.

  2. I disagree with Sarah Palin but it's natural to want to say things in your position's favor. If she does run, Hillary will most likely get my first vote ever.

  3. I think that Palin's opinion is quite predictable, she and Hillary are on opposite sides of the spectrum. Of course she doesn't think Hillary will win. However, I am with Byron I think Fox aired Palin because her views are in sync with theirs, and there is always incentive. I also agree with Sam, if Hillary runs, she will most likely have my support.

  4. Byron-Also, I feel like it would have been awesome if you titled your current event "See Hillary Run", like that nursery rhyme thing. Just puttin' that out there

  5. I think that her connection with Fox news will certainly add some influence towards what Palin presents as her views, I think it's interesting though that she wasn't so much for having a woman president. Palin was about to make history if she had won Vice, but failed, so you'd assume that since she wasn't able to make it that she'd still want someone to forge that path for future generations but I guess not.
