Summary:
Twelve people were killed in the Washington Navy Yard by an unexpected shooter. Suspect Aaron Alexis, a 34 year old man from Fort Worth Texas, entered the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters and started shooting people from the fourth floor. Chaos aroused and many people rushed in panic to find an exit. Supposedly, Alexis has had issues against the law involving guns in the past. He once served in the U.S. Navy Reserve in 2007 to 2011, but in both 2004 and 2010 he was arrested for unnecessary use of firearm. After his attack on the Washington Navy Yard, Alexis was killed in a gun battle with the police. This was the worst attack on a military yard since the attack on Fort Hood in 2009.
Analysis:
Considering that an unexpected shooter was easily able to enter a military installation, it shows that their security was not strong enough. You would think that at a place as important as this, security would play a major role. However, since the soldiers on base are now banned from carrying weapons, they do not have a strong source of protection. I believe it is not fair that anyone (like a terrorist) can sneak into the navy yard with their own weapons and attack, yet our soldiers are not allowed to have their own weapons to fight against them.
