ERINN GREEN (1st Period) Obama to seek Congress vote on Syria military action
The United States says the Syrian government carried out chemical weapons attacks on 21
August in which 1,429 people died. The Syrian government denies that they were behind the attacks and blames rebels. On Saturday, Mr. Obama formally asked Congress to authorize military
action. The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, which is overseeing
the investigation, said the whole testing process could take up to three weeks,
although "every effort" would be made to expedite it. President Obama says that we will not turn a "blind eye". Pretty much saying that, we will go to war with them because we are more than ready. At this point President Obama has all right and power to order the troops to go into war without the vote of the congress, however he feels that it should be discussed. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said his country will defend itself against
any Western "aggression". Right about now everyone is just waiting until President Obama speaks.

Analysis: I feel that we should go to war with them and get ready for anything that they have coming our way. I feel that we are more than ready and President Obama should go ahead and give our troops the okay so they can go to war

ReplyDeleteHey Erinn:)
Anyway, I believe it's the right thing for the President to speak with Congress and learn of their uncertainties/disagreements with the Syrian conflict. Before getting involved, I think the U.S. needs to also talk with some allies and see what their position on the matter is and if needed, will they aid American troops in Syria. Yes, it is wrong for the Syrian government to use chemical warfare on its people, but before America intervenes in complications abroad, our government should more importantly be concerned with the its own people.
I couldn't agree with you more Tyra. However sooner is better than later. So we need to job on it before they strike again.
ReplyDeleteHi, Erinn! I think President Obama is definitely taking action for solving this whole situation as best as he can. This whole thing has everyone on the edge of their seats. I'm glad that you're very understanding that he is willing to fight for our country and other countries, despite the dangers we face. We just have to stick together. You hit the nail on the head.
ReplyDeleteI think President Obama is doing a good job of handling the situation promptly and legally. Consulting Congress is the right thing to do, and very important in the decision making process. He is showing that America will not be messed with, and I agree that we should not turn a "blind eye."

ReplyDeleteI agree with my great president as well. President Obama should take action as soon as possible but he should also talk to congress and other counter parts that are apart of what he is doing since everyone will be affected by his choice.

ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you and our president is making a good decision to take action against Syria. I also believe that he is making the right decision for the people by deferring with congress first before he fully calls war on Syria. - Emily Gray, 5th period
ReplyDeleteI believe the decision of going to war or not needs to be strongly discussed with the congress. I think the decision at the end will be a good one if communication is within them.
