Charlotte PD Kills Unarmed Man Who Survived Car Accident by Tyra Harris

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/09/16/us-usa-police-accident-idUSBRE98E0AT20130916

Summary: An officer who works for the Charlotte Police Department has been charged with voluntary manslaughter after shooting 24 year old Jonathan Ferrell. Cops were called after Ferrell, African American,  consistently knocked on a woman's door for help after escaping a from his crashed vehicle in a predominately white neighborhood. After realizing Ferrell wasn't her husband, she called 911. Police found Ferrell not too far away from the woman's home. When Ferrell saw them, he ran towards them. Police unsuccessfully tried to tasar, but Ferrell continued to run to the officers. Then, one of them fired his service weapon at the college student multiple times, resulting in Ferrell's death.

Analysis: This is once again an unfortunate mistake that police officers have made against an innocent civilian. Citizens come the feds for assurance of safety. Sadly, this case is the exact opposite. Ferrell came to officers for that "assurance of safety" in the hopes that they would quickly take him to the nearest hospital, but instead they were the cause of his death. Now, his fiance won't be walking down the aisle anytime soon all because of a pair of disregardful police officers. Also, the race card may have been involved. Was Ferrell profiled as a criminal because of his ethnicity as Trayvon Martin was? I don't doubt the truthfulness of the question above. I don't understand why the officer who ended Ferrell's life wasn't charged with murder. The civilian did not present a weapon, threatening the officers. And on another note, people always run towards the police when faced with a problem because the public knows their (suppose) to be of some assistance. Poor Jonathan Ferrell thought the same and didn't expect this tragedy.
