Aaron Alexis, a Fort Worth resident working in Washington, killed at least 12 people today at the Navy Yard before authorities could locate and take him out.
The investigation is still ongoing, but so far we know that Alexis has a history with gun misuse, was currently working for the government as a defense contractor. This contract agreement would have given Alexis the clearance he needed to slip, armed, past guarded entrances and into the 3rd floor balcony where he did his shooting from. It is not yet clear why Alexis may have carried out this shooting, hopefully investigators will find out more as the week progresses.
This shooting is terrible news. It's the 9th planned mass- shooting in a decade. Why someone would desire to assassinate so many innocent people is beyond me, and being able to pull it off? That is horrifying! It is a sad day for the people of Washington.
I agree. 9th planned mass shooting?! That's horrible. Completely horrible and unacceptable. It's getting to the point now where shootings like this will be happening more frequently. We need change soon. The sooner, the better.
