A young girl, low caste, at just the age of 13 was behead in Southern India by a man who was a part of the high caste. The complaint filed with the police in Salem alleges that the victim had rejected the advances of the accused, which triggered the man to perform a violent murder. The police have charged him under the act that criminalizes caste-based violence. The lower castes, the caste that the beheaded teen was in, are often denied to the right of education and employment through discrimination and lots of abuse.
This event is traumatizing to everyone in Salem, the girls family, community, and even me reading the event. An event like this just proves that our world will never be perfect, ever, and that people are still hurting others for unnecessary reasons. This relates back to history when tax collectors would get tar and feathered for just following orders from their king. Just because the colonists disagreed with the acts of the tax collectors does not mean they could harm them. This event is very disturbing and it is very hard to believe that someone would end someone else’s life just because they were a lower class or for not following their “orders”.

Emma Burkey: This story truly reveals that things have not changed in our world because people who are in a higher class think they can take advantage of those in the lower. This caste system is truly messing with peoples' brains to make them believe that just because they may be in a better living situation they have the right to force things on those who don't.
