This article discusses the unreleased Trump memo about having stronger borders on gender: male or female based on genitalia at birth. There were rallies in New York, Massachusettes and Washington D.C. today and yesterday protesting this idea. there's also been a twitter storm with pictures of members of the trans community stating that they #WontBeErased. The majority of the Republican party disagree with the parameters that the memo presents, but the majority of the democratic party does not. The courts have ensured that in practice the trans community will still have legal protection through sexual discrimination. This just means they will have just one more obstacle to face in their journey through this lifetime.
This article was factual but leans more towards disagreeing with the idea of stronger gender borders. The author reports what has happened but provides many more examples of disagreement than disagreement, showing their beliefs. Knowing this it was most likely written for supporters of the L.G.B.T.Q community, although non-supporters probably should read it to have a more well-rounded viewpoint. I just honestly can't even believe that we've come so far in our society, only to be backtracked by people unwilling to open their minds to new possibilities. Just because it wasn't naturally there doesn't mean it's wrong. Sometimes things take effort and anyone that can't see that needs to grow beyond their laziness and be willing to reach for something difficult. The L.G.B.T.Q. community goes through so much; they are probably some of the strongest willed people in our nation and we should be thankful for them instead of punishing them for being who they feel is right. This can be tied to a bathroom bill that thankfully did not pass through the House in Kentucky. The bill stated that students could sue their school for encountering a transgender person in the bathroom of which they identified. Both discriminate members of our population that are just trying to be comfortable in themselves like the rest of us. How can we let this happen and still attempt to be "great again".
