On Saturday morning, a lone gunman opened fire in the Tree of Life synagogue located in the heart of Pittsburgh's Jewish community. 11 people died in the shooting and police and SWAT apprehended the shooter. The suspect, 46 year old Robert Bowers, has stated that he wants all Jews to die, and even posted about it on the social media site Gab five minutes before the shooting. Bowers is currently facing 29 federal charges for what is, according to the Anti-Defamation League, the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in US history.
This article was written at 3:05 Sunday, an entire day after the shooting happened, most likely because they were waiting for the charges to be announced. Neither of the authors are, to my knowledge, Jewish, but can still tell the facts as they happened. The shooting's label of being the deadliest attack on the Jewish community took first place from David Lewis Rice in 1985, when he beat and stabbed Charles Goldmark and his family because he thought they were Jewish. It shows that attacks against Jewish people isn't anything new but something we definitely need to protect against.

Time and time again, hate speech has been inextricably linked to acts of violence. I hope that one day this pattern will be recognized so we could nip things like this in the bud
