Pittsburg Shooting- Gracie Zytynski
On October 27, 2018, an anti-Semitic man by the name of Robert D. Bowers stormed into the the Tree of Life Congregation, where worshipers had gathered in separate rooms to celebrate their faith. As a result of Bowers armed with an AR-15 style assault riffle and at least 3 hand guns, he had killed 11 innocent people, injured 4 police officers, and injured 2 others. Currently, federal officials charged him with 29 criminal counts. This included obstructing the free exercise of religious beliefs and using a firearm to commit murder. He also faces charges, including 11 counts of criminal homicide, 6 counts of aggravated assault, and 13 counts of ethnic intimidation. After this event, people are calling this the "most horrific crime scene," so they are now placing more security outside of holy Jewish places and synagogue.
Written by Campbell Robertson apart of the New York Times on October 27, this informed the audience of this horrific shooting in Pittsburg. Prior to reading this article I had heard of the several shootings that have occurred and left several innocent people dead. On June 17, 2015 there was a shooting at Charleston Church, which is similar to the Pittsburg Shooting because they are both holy place. To inform all but mostly the Jewish community, this let the audience know of another shooting occurrence. This is important because it shows the audience that something needs to be done to fix the shootings. Shootings are happening so frequently that it is no longer a shock when something like this occurs and we have to take action to make a change.

I know people would say that there should be gun control but I am not certain that alone would help. People are deciding to kill others so do we attempt to help or fix these people or taken away one weapon out of so many others?
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Good gun control is a thin line, do we put restrictions in like those in Japan, increase the scope of background checks, or leave our regulations as is?

ReplyDeleteThis really shows how guns are affecting our community in negative ways and how we are abusing our right to bear arms.

I agree with you. We may have the right to bear arms, but we do not have the right to kill based on antisemitic beliefs.
DeleteI really agree that we as a nation have become desensitized to these types of things which highly worries me
