Woman Blows Herself Up and Injures 15
After a long period of peace in the North African nation of Tunisia, another terrorist attack has occuredin the country’s capitol of Tunis. The attack happened outside a theater and left 15 people wounded, including 10 police officers. The bomber had no prior record as a militant of one of several terrorist groups who have attacked Tunisia in the past. This attack came after a 2 year period of no major terrorist attacks, with the last major attack happening in a museum and resulted in stagnation of the country’s tourism industry. Tunisia is also one of the few countries that created a stable democracy following the Arab Spring, and this most recent attack comes after a recent period of political uncertainty.
Reuters reports with little to no bias and has simply reported the facts on this event. I believe this attack serves as a scary reminder that even though the Islamic State has been stripped of much land in their former occupied areas, that doesn’t mean they still have the capability to influence the minds of people all across the world to commit heinous acts against humanity. I wish these seemingly constant attacks would seize up, as the country of Tunis’ attempts I creating a stable, prosperous tourist state are put on hold for some years until the aftermath of the attacks wear off.
I believe the events and aftermath that have been repeated time and time again in Tunis are reminiscent of the downfall of Sarajevo following the siege there. Prior to the siege, Sarajevo was known as the prosperous cultural center of Bosnia and successful host of the Olympics, but following the siege it was known as nothing but the victim of hate, much like how the pristine tourist locals of Tunis has been replaced with the concept of a hotbed of terrorist attacks, time after time again.
