To Rally Voters, Democrats Focus on Health Care as Their Closing Argument- Nik Puri

The Democratic Party is starting a major turnaround. Senators such as Claire McCaskill and Senate Democrats in states like Florida and West Virginia have increasingly focused their closing argument on saving the affordable care act. In results of this, the republicans are in need to reposition themselves and come up with their own health care pitch. Donald Trump proposed that Medicare should pay for certain prescription drugs based on the prices paid in other industrialized countries. Ironically, last October, President Trump said he killed the act announcing "It's dead. It's gone. It's no longer." The affordable health care act has lit up polls, monopolized advertising budgets, and created a strategy for Democrats, who are relying heavily on health care as a defining issue in Arizona, Florida, West Virginia, and Nevada. A good example of a republican switching to being a democrat because of health care is Callie Glascock, an administrator at the University of Missouri.  She said quote "Everyone wants to say Obamacare was bad. Well, who's coming up with a better plan?"

This article was published on October 28, 2018 by Trip Gabriel. The date implies that the information provided in this article is current and accurate. Before I read this article, I always thought that republicans had the best policies because that's why we have a republican president and majority. Now, I realize that the democrats have a better plan for health care while the republicans are struggling to come up with a plan. Moreover, the article's topic is similar to the Republicans creating a majority over the democrats. It wasn't until recently that the Republicans have the chance to sustain a great majority in the senate for the first time in 50 years. It relates to U.S. history because the transition to different parties happens all the time. It happened when the Democratic-republicans ran the Federalists out of office. This article was created for the citizens of the United States because it was meant to express the democrats point of view and what they would do when they get their majority back. Finally, this article is important because it mentions a flaw that the republican party has yet to fix and that could benefit the democrats in the future.

  1. I think that it's very telling that healthcare is the thing Democrats have chosen to focus on, given it being a largely nonpartisan issue. It's very strategic for them given the upcoming elections

  2. I think it is telling that Democrats have been focusing on healthcare as it is generally regarded as a bipartisan or nonpartisan issue. I think we need to keep Obamacare around until there is a better replacement that both parties can agree on.
