A man from North Carolina is accused of decapitating his mother because he felt like it. He wasn't found guilty because of the murder because of his insanity. A Franklin County judge ruled psychosis drove the suspect, Machada, to commit the crime. He was ordered to remain in a mental hospital.
The evidence insists that he was undergoing a schizophrenic attack at the time, and according to the documents, Machada told 911 operators that repeatedly stabbed his mother because "he felt like it" and that a deputy saw him carry her head outside. A forensic scientists testifies that the suspect claims what he heard was the voice of God telling him to kill his mother. He apologized to his family during court.

Last year, a mentally ill man accused of beheading a bus passenger is freed from all supervision.

Beheading has a long varied history as a means of punishment. In the late 1500s, Mary Queen of Scotts was put to death on the orders of her cousin Queen Elizabeth l of England. The sentence was decapitation. In France, nobles, clergy and anyone else who was against the French Revolution would be sentenced to the guillotine. Today, unlike judicial beheading practices in Saudi Arabia which is done with a sword, ISIS beheadings are usually done with short knife for maximum blood, and ideally, the victim begs for his life which then maximizes the propaganda value.
