"Where do we place the Bomb of Blame?" An interpretation of NPR article by Adelaide Willert

"Blaming Victims For Mail Bombs Carries Echoes Of Civil Rights Bombings"

This recent NPR article from Debbie Elliot discusses the controversy around who was responsible for the pipe bombs sent to Trump's critics prior to the apprehension of Cesar Sayoc. As stated in the article, some thought that the Democrats had sent them in order to appeal for sympathy in a political manipulation. This however, was debunked by a vague connection made by Cesar Sayoc and a pro-Trump twitter account. Current speculations of political motivation are being brushed aside, as Sayoc has yet to reveal his motivation, even under question in the official criminal complaint.

This is a form of terrorism. Whether or not this was politically motivated becomes irrelevant when we look at the act itself. Elliot's article discusses how during the Civil Rights movements, these types of bombings were a means of attaining a certain outcome, or providing politicians with fear-powered motivation. At the end of the day, just like with the civil rights movement, underneath our skin color, our political beliefs, our backgrounds and cultures, we are made of the same flesh and bones. Underneath it all, each person has the same skeleton. The sending of the pipe bombs may have been a terror tactic to set us against each other in a time where we need to form a united front; this only proves how much we have to truly be there for each other and how much we need to collate our forces against our evils.
