In Trump's latest attack on the LGBT+ community came from an unreleased memo from the health department that proposed making genitalia inextricably linked to gender and defining it as "a biological, immutable condition determined by genitalia at birth." This has sparked many protests and more promised to occur if the memo turns into something more.
I wish I could say I'm surprised but I'm just frustrated to be forced to watch progress go backwards with very little I can do about it. However it isn't exactly the first time this has happened. Over and over, throughout history, my people have been erased in all ways, most notably in the AIDS crisis which predominantly affected gay men. It was only when straight people began dying of it was it acknowledged and work began being done to attempt to cure it.

I find your comment regarding progress seeming to move backwards so appallingly true. I understand your position of impotence as well, as we are still seen as "kids" with limited rights and little, if any, impact in this "big, adult world".
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that throughout history the turmoil of the LGBTQ+ community have been swept under the rug and ignored by society. Thankfully, however, social media has given the LGBTQ+ community a ceaseless voice, and now they can protest over political matters and be recognized for it.
