Sophie Knox- 3000 Police Body Cameras Recalled

Summary:
The NYPD recently pulled out a little less than 3000 body cameras from police officers. Some in response to this have been tweeting a false narrative that the NYPD is trying to hide “the truth.” Although this is plausible, it is actually because officials revealed that there is a potential for the battery to expload, but have yet to determine to what degree. Also, this Sunday a Satan Island officer’s noticed his bodycam was smoking, so he took it off and it burst into flames. The city had a $6.4 million dollar with VieVu (the bodycam company & was a catalyst for the 2016 debate questioning if the cameras were safe). VieVu then released their Le-5 camera (the ones caught with the exploding problem) back in October of 2017 boasting that it can record for 12 consecutive hours. Although 3000 were taken out, there still remains 12,000 officicers with safe body cams in NYC at the moment.

Analysis: this article briefly  goes over why some believe that body cameras are needed on police officers, and other conflicting matters, but I think the article does a fantastic job at being unbiased. It was written yesterday when this incedent first happened. We can compare this to when the Samsung phones began blowing up, and when they had to recall them. We can also compare this to when the antislavery protestors in the north claimed that the southerns settled in Texas to promote “slavocracy”. I don’t believe the NYPD has any other alternative purpose for dispatching the cameras.
