Lily Philips- Early voting in Dallas Surpasses Number in 2014

Today, October 22, 2018, early voting for the midterm elections opened in Texas. This year, the number of voters on the first day of early voting has increased by about 26,000 people. The total count for today was 55,384 compared to the 29,217 people back in 2014. The waiting lines for the polls were so much longer than usual and some locations had to stay open later than 7 pm to account for all of the voters still in line. This increase of voters registered and voting is considered to be a positive thing because our government should represent us, and the best way to do that is for our citizens to vote.

This article was published by the Dallas Morning News and written by Briana Stone who focuses on writing about politics in Texas. The audience of the article is fellow Texans, and the author wants to inform them to vote in the midterm elections. Stone held no bias toward one party or the other and seemed to see this as a good thing. This can be connected to the importance of voting in elections because it is a citizens civic duty to vote to express their opinion on government positions. Your vote has an impact on the overall outcome, and the number of people that chose not to vote add up, resulting in a candidate that does not fully represent the state of country as a whole.  I hope that this article and others like it inspire the people of our country to vote in the midterm elections for their state and continue to do so in elections in the future.

  2. This is really great. We need more people to vote, especially in the midterms since a lot of people don’t care. I also think there have been a lot more add compains to get people to vote this year, so I believe that might have effected this years number of voters.
