Leslie Vasquez- Trump Criticized for U.S. Withdrawal from Nuclear Arms Treaty with Russia

On October 20th, Trump announced that he will be pulling the United States out of a nuclear arms agreement put in place by President Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev in 1987 after saying that Russia had violated the treaty. People of his own administration have criticized his announcement, claiming that removing the United States from the agreement would essentially create a present-day Cold War and that Russia could move way faster than the U.S. this time around. Others think that it could just be a power-move to make Russia comply with the United states, however it has been called a "big mistake." Some lawmakers are worried that this could begin a road to undoing all nuclear acts that have been set up to this point.

This article immensely conveys that many lawmakers, even of Trump's administration, do not approve of this termination. It is important for the public to know this because if the U.S. does pull out of this treaty, we could be seeing another nuclear arms race not even a generation or two away from now. This will cause an uproar from those who disapprove of the termination. The announcement just adds to the anxiety of what a presidential administration can really accomplish, even if it's good or bad.
