Voting in Afghanistan

In Kabul, Afghanistan more than 4 million people showed up to vote in Afghanistan's parliamentary election.  The election had to be extended by one day for safety reasons, and there were security threats by the Taliban that left hundreds of thousands of people unable or scared to vote on Saturday. On Sunday, the people felt safe again and up to one million Afghans returned to various voting places across the nation's provinces. The four million voters stand for half of the eligible voter base in the country.  This election is the first parliamentary poll in eight years. It has been delayed for three years due to security issues and political infighting over electoral reform measures.  This weekend's polls also marked the introduction of biometric devices at voting centers as well as the first election since the 2014 presidential election.

I think its incredible how a country came together to vote and use their voice.  It is good that the government is letting the people vote and have a voice.  This article was published October 21, 2018, and shows how the people in Afghanistan take advantage of their right to vote.  This reminds me of during the ratification of the constitution when all of New York came together to either deny or ratify the US Constitution.  It is essential that people see this news so that they may want to go vote and  become more engaged in what goes on in their country.
