This ABC article discusses the new tropical storm, Willa, that is scheduled to hit Mexico as a category 3 storm on Tuesday evening. This is yet another potentially devastating storm that could bring much destruction to Mexico. It is also suspected that more heavy rains will hit South and central Texas as a result. As of Monday, the storm is likely to hit a more unpopulated area which would save many lives.
This article's audience is supposed to be the United States to inform us of another possibly disastrous storm. However, I find it unlikely that most Americans are paying attention to a storm that is hitting another country. Normally I would find this ignorant of our nation, but after the devastation in the Carolinas and more recently in Florida, it is hard to think of anything else besides helping those in our country. I think the value of this article is more than most people would give it credit for because it shows that the tropical storms are not waning and that global warming has indeed had an affect on our world. Scientists have said that these storms would still have hit regardless of global warming, but the strength of them can be blamed on the warming planet. If we as a world do not come to terms with the fact that we need to do something our world as we know it will end not even ten years after we graduate from high school. This article and the strength of the recent tropical storms can relate to that of hurricane Katrina and its destruction of Louisiana.
