On October 15th Elizabeth Warren published her DNA test showing that she is 1/64th Native American to prove to Donald Trump her heritage. Warren is facing much criticism for this, including the Cherokee Nation. They said that this information is useless for determining tribal citizenship and that using a DNA test to determine ties tribal nations is inappropriate and wrong.
I honestly think it's ridiculous that people even claim an ethnicity when they're only 1/64th. Being part of an ethnic group is much more than your DNA. It's how your raised, the food you eat, the way you talk, and much more. I think Warren should've had better judgment than to release that just to prove Donald Trump wrong, because it's not only insensitive, it's damaging to Native Americans.
Elizabeth Warren
I totally agree with you, it is ridiculous claiming you’re an ethnicity/race if you’re not even 25% of it. The first time I heard about her she was claiming she was native Americans because her nose shape was similar to some Native Americans. And in this INSTANCE I don’t think Trump was wrong for calling her fauxcahontas.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t know that her justification was her nose. That’s ridiculous!

DeleteIf you are 1/64 of anything, then you can’t call yourself part of it. With ethnicity comes culture, and a nose doesn’t determine your culture.

I agree, that was a little bit too far. Culture is extremely important. Very well written and informative, great job.
ReplyDeleteThe Native American culture is significantly important to U.S. history and I don't think 1/64th means anything.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that culture is a really important thing but if your only 1/64th of anything I don't think it makes you a part of it or mean anything. Her nose doesn't determine anything.- Lesly Marquez
