In the October 27 KDKA-TV CBS Pittsburgh article, the most recent shooting is discussed and described, providing context around the shooting. At 9.54 am on October 27, 911 was dialed as a man, now named as Robert Bowers, entered a synagogue armed with an AR-15 and three handguns. In the twenty minutes before he was apprehended and taken into custody, Bower killed eleven people, and injured an additional six. Bower's act of semitism has resulted in the following charges against him:
"Eleven counts each of Obstruction of Exercise of Religious Beliefs Resulting in Death and Use of a Firearm to Commit Murder During and in Relation to a Crime of Violence, four counts of Obstruction of Exercise of Religious Beliefs Resulting in Bodily Injury to a Public Safety Officer and three counts of Use and Discharge of a Firearm During and in Relation to a Crime of Violence."
When Trump was asked about the matter, and asked about the alteration of gun laws, he said "This has little to do with it. If they had protection inside the results would have been far better. This is a dispute that will always exist I suspect. But if they had some kind of protection inside the temple, maybe it could have been a much different situation. But they didn't and he was a ble to do things that unfortunately he shouldn't have been able to do."
I personally could not be more ashamed of our nation right now. How many deaths will it take for something to change? How many times will we read the same tragic story before someone with political power decides to act? How many people must die for the 21% of the U.S. population to own guns? Recently, a local Dallas band came out with a song regarding gun laws, and the message it spreads is undeniably powerful (Again and Again by Sweet Chaos). It addresses how much has to change and how little we do to spur that change. The main lyrics that resonate the most are "Maybe if we did something this wouldn't be happening again and again." This couldn't be more true. We need to do something. The severity of this issue is parallel to the issue of slavery we had in the 1800s and before that. Something needs to change.
