John McCain dead- Gracie Zytynski
On Saturday, August 25th, a naval hero, prisoner of war in Vietnam, senator from Arizona, two time President contender, and Republican congressman passed away. Mr. John S. McCain died at age 81 after suffering from a malignant brain tumor, called a glioblastoma, that he has been fighting since 2017. In McCain’s past he served as a navy lieutenant commander, and was one of the most known for the actions he presented in war. During war, McCain was shot down in Hanoi, being confined for two years and beaten frequently, but refusing to be released early to hold his honor and risk demoralizing his fellow prisoners. After undergoing war, he went into politics running for president twice, senate of Arizona, and running two terms in the House of Representatives from 1983-1987. McCain was a true hero and will be remembered by many.
This article published by Robert D. McFadden in The New York Times on August 25, 2018 touched the lives of many. Prior to reading this article, I did not know much about McCain, but i knew that he played a role in our government. After reading the article and understanding all he did for our country I was truly able to understand how he was a hero. McCain was a prisoner of war in Vietnam which was a major and deadly war fought by the United States from 1955-1975. The article was written to inform the death to many, bringing a negative influence, due to his tragic death. Robert D. McFadden most likely admired McCain, so he wrote the article to show the audience all McCain has done to help our country. The article is trying to convey the life of a man who accomplished many things through his life, which helped improve our country. The article was very important because we were able to view the importance of John McCain’s life and how our country has grown from his influence.
