Funeral Bishop apologizes for touching Ariana Grande inappropriately at Aretha Franklins Funeral

                                                                                                                                     Kristen Ramirez

Bishop Charles H. Ellis who led "Queen Of Soul" Aretha Franklins Funeral is now apologizing about the way he came into contact with "pop" singer Ariana Grande. During the service, Lots of people noticed the way he was holding her above the waist near her breast and pressing into her, this topic soon became viral, fans were soon quick to react tweeting about it and using the hashtag #RespectAriana. He later stated after the funeral " It would never have been his intention to touch any woman's breast... I don't know I guess I put my arm around her, Maybe I crossed the line, maybe I was too friendly or familiar but again, I apologize."Others think the incident  overshadowed some criticism that Grande was getting due to her dress not being appropriate for the occasion.

This article is important because, in 1967, Aretha released "Respect" one of her most iconic and influential songs. Not only was she singing about a love affair but, their was a statement behind the song about Feminism and Civil Rights something that was a problem at the time. Yet, its something women are still going through now. I think that the meaning and message of "Respect"displays how impactful Aretha was as a singer and person till this day.

  1. It is very saddening to see behavior like this especially at such inappropriate situations. I agree with the connections you made to Aretha's song "Respect." I think this was an awful way to honor her at her funeral.
